Your Questions About Earn Money Quick Online

Carol asks…

Is it possible to earn money on the internet?

Nagesh answers:

Hi, there are jobs you can do to earn money on the internet for sure, but it depends what you are willing to do. As you are looking for a job you will have to do boring things for many hours to get paid. It is possible but tough.

Now, you can also look into becoming an online entrepreneur and build a true legitimate business online. But this takes a lot of hard work, dedication and a whole different mindset. You will have to build something before you see money coming in and that is what most people are not willing to do. But if you stick to it, the success you can achieve is beyond your wildest dreams.

Yes there are scams and get rich quick schemes and I have been online for years but now I have found a mentor and a community that is the best.

But a bit of warning: you have to change your mindset first. With the employee mindset (like most people have) you will probably not make it. Nothing personal, but it is what makes people give up too soon. Good luck!

Nancy asks…

Your Questions About Ideas To Make Money On The Side

David asks…

i need some ideas on how i can make a little money on the side?

im bout that paper

Nagesh answers:

I am in the same boat you are in man. I need suggestions on making money to.
I do have some ideas that I am not willing to do. But I will tell you the ideas in case you are interested.
Donate Plasma. Go to the sperm bank and donate sperm. Donate bone marrow. You can even have a doctor remove One of your kidneys and get several Thousand dollars for that.
One thing I did a couple years ago was joined the Army and went to Iraq for a year. The rest of the time (Two years) I spent in Germany. I made a ton of money there. However, I got out of the Army, went back home to Michigan and moved to Florida. Now after buying a truck, moving expenses, paying rent for a year, being temporarily unemployed, etc. All my money I saved from the Army ($27,000) is gone! So be careful with spending it.
Also, don’t do any thing illegal, because after paying court fees and every thing, you will probably spend around $27,000! I myself got stopped by police after drinking a few beers, but Lucila I was barely under the limit and they had to let me go and could not arrest me. I got lucky that nite. If I were Two points higher on the breathalyser, I would have had to spend all my 27,000 on court fees and I would have never been able to move to Florida. I would be in Michigan freezing half to death right now! So just be careful.

George asks…

Begging-Should people who give money to beggars be fined?

Do you think it should be illegal for people to roll down their car windows and give money to beggars on the side of the road or the highway ramps? Do you think they should give their “so called” donation to a more worthy cause?
Just to clarify…I have personally known many beggars..not children..not runaways…not single moms…they have all been individuals who “CHOOSE” their lifestyle. They choose not to live within the restrictions and responsibilities like most people in our society. I am not asking about beggars…I am asking about why people give to them and if they give to other causes.

Nagesh answers:

Sorry, but I work for my own money. And thanks to the levels of freedom in this country, I can do what I like with it. And that includes giving it away to your version of an unworthy cause.

Have you ever talked to a homeless person? Or some teenager on the street begging for quarters? Do you know what kind of shame and embarassment these people have to endure every time they have to look someone in the eyes and ask ‘Any spare change mister?’

And despite popular belief, homeless people, and kids living on the street are not just too lazy to get a job, they are not just too stubborn to do what they are told and go back home to live with their parents (for the kids). Not everyone who is homeless chooses to be homeless. Have you ever heard a 6 year old kid in an elementary grade class telling his teacher that he wants to grow up to be a homeless person, begging on the street to earn a living? I never have, and I doubt that anyone else has either. People don’t want to be poor, they don’t want to be homeless, they don’t want to go to food banks, soup kitchens or beg for change either. But it’s something that these people have to do in order to earn a living. Most of them are NOT alcoholics or drug dependant either.

So, get a job, go on welfare or something? Yeah, nice idea. But a little known fact about social assistance is that you have to already have an address to get some money. How do you pay rent with no money?? And how do you apply for a job when you have no address, no telephone for them to reach you? It’s hard enough just to stay clean, considering that you don’t have access to a shower or anything like that. Have you ever wanted to work with someone that smelled like old garbage? Probably not.

Have you ever thought of what you might do if both of your parents were killed in a car accident? What if you had no other family to go live with? At 16 years old, could you fend for yourself? Or what if your parents didn’t die. What if instead, they split up and neither of them wanted you? Then your mother moves across the country and leaves you with your ‘dad’. He gets sick of your shitty attitude almost right away and kicks you out on the street because you’re too much trouble to deal with. Without ever having graduated from high school, what do you do now?

Aside from that, there are plenty of homeless people that have become criminalized just to prevent themselves from freezing to death in the winter. I actually met a man who would commit a petty crime every year around October just so that he would have a warm bed and daily meals inside a prison for the winter months. But he wasn’t a criminal. He did those things because he didn’t have access to any other way to keep himself alive. He didn’t know how to make the government programs work for him rather than against him. And with a criminal record, it became near impossible for him to get any kind of job, even one paying minimum wage.

With many cities making anti-panhandling legislation, even asking someone for spare change has become a criminal act. Do you realize that it is a crime to be poor? People treat you like dirt almost everywhere you go, and you develop a nasty suspicion that every time the police are around, they are there to do something to hurt you. Besides, you really think that it makes sense to give someone a fine for pan-handling when the reason they do it is that they already have no money?? What kind of sense does that make?

As for fining people that give poor people money, that is also an unfair idea. It’s not against the law for you to give your money to the Heart & Stroke Foundation is it? Who has the right to say what I should consider worthy of my hard-earned money more than I do?? Hopefully nobody!

And take some free advice: take an afternoon, walk down the streets where some homeless guy has had the nerve to bother you looking for a handout and take a minute to TALK TO THE GUY! Ask him how he came to be where he is, and how wrong his life went. I bet that once, maybe long ago, he was probably a lot like you. Maybe you’ll not only gain a bit of understanding about the place of poverty in this country, but you may also give the guy $5, or buy him a bowl of soup.

Steven asks…

CLUB NIGHT in brighton ideas help please ?…?

I need some idea for a club night in Brighton I have a few like Gary goose give away
But finding it had to thing of anymore dose anyone have any idea or know of any good ones they have seen or been to this is for 18+ standard music a bit of dubstep and all that lot it’s a rather poser club then the others in Brighton would be very thanks full for anyone’s help and there is NO limit on what we can do on the money side so open to all ideas !!

Nagesh answers:

Well if money isn’t an issue, you could consider a PA in relation to the theme of your night.
Do you mean Grey goose? Because that usually goes for about £120 in the average club, and about £30-£40 in shop, so you could make a damn good profit. But a giveaway could be a good idea to draw in a decent sized crowd and therefore a bit more profit, However I’d up the security with free Vodka. Student nights always seem to be a big hit, however I don’t know if that is the type of crowd you want around Grey Goose, I wouldn’t

Up in Birmingham, we do this sort of night every month or so and if it goes well, we’ll carry it on everyweek or so. The venues usually want a hire fee however we keep all the enterance fee and the owners take a % from the bar, so we rarely make a loss. It is a very fruitful business to enter.

Make sure to consider:
Flyers
Promoters wages
DJ’S
Venue hire

Please message me for any help, info or anything else you want to talk about the night.

Your Questions About Ways To Make Money Fast In Runescape

Laura asks…

what is the best way to make money on runescape for level 86 member?

im a lvl 86 member and i only have about 200k in bank i need help to get money fast

Nagesh answers:

Try attacking green dragons next to clan wars.if u kill them they will drop dragon bones and their worth 1k and green dragon hides worth 1k.

Fire Giants Can be found in the Waterfall Dungeon and the Wilderness Fire Giant Dungeon, and are stronger than the other giants. Instead of killing them for their bones, they are killed for their Rune Scimitar, and Dragon Drops. Also, they drop Fire Battlestaffs which can be High-Alched using Magic for 9,300gp.

Aviansies Can be found in the God Wars Dungeon. They drop many Adamantite Bars, Rune Daggers, and Rune Limbs. They are one of the best monsters to kill for money. By wearing a symbol from the god, Armadyl, they will be non-aggressive to you.

Bloodvelds Require a Slayer level of 50. It is recommended that you Range them, as there is a safe spot, or you can attack them with a Halberd, however the Halberds speed does not work with its benefits. Bloodvelds are killed for the Blood Runes they drop.

Kalphite Queen Lives in the Kalphite Lair and might drop a Dragon Medium Helm which sells for 75,000 gp, Dragon 2h Sword which can sell for 1,300,000-1,500,000gp, or a Dragon chainbody which sells for 10,000,000gp.

Dust Devils Require a Slayer level of 65, and are found in the Smokey Well. You need a Facemask to protect against the smoke which acts as poison. Dust Devils are primarily killed for their rare Dragon Chainbody drop which occurs 1 in a 10,000-16,000 chance range. It is recommended to either range them using Safe Spots, or Hally them, as they can deal up to 8 damage. Dragon Chainbodies can be sold for 10,000,000 gp each.

King Black Dragon Is the second strongest dragons in RuneScape, and due to this, drop some of the best items. Their drops include Dragon Medium Helms which sell for 75,000 gp, Dragonstones which sell for 50,000-60,000gp, Black Dragonhide which sells for 2,500-4,000gp, Dragon Bones which sell for 1,500-1,600gp each, and Level 3 Clue Scrolls.

Go fish some shark,monks or lava eels.{lava eels are fished in the lava maze in the wildy.}

go cut some magical trees.

Go to hill giants and kill those giants, once they die they will drop big bones.it’s worth 400 gp!!!

If ur lvl 40 fishing go to Karamja and fish lobsters.Their worth 200 more gp

If ur lvl 40 and crafting go to the crafting guild.Their are about 5 gold ores there.Mine it.It is worth 500 more gp.

If ur lvl 84 mining go mine rune ores.It is in the wilderness. It is dangerous thier but its worth it.It is worth 12k each.if u hav 28 ok them u will hav about 350,000!!

This is an easy money making for noobs.go kill some cow and get their cow hide.it is worth 90 some gp.

If ur lvl 60 woodcutting go cut some yew trees.their worth 400 some gp.

Daniel asks…

whats an easy way to make money on runescape for a level 32?

Im a level 32 on runescape and need money fast, dont say kill dragons cause i cant.

If you say rude comments and or spam you will be reported

Nagesh answers:

It depends on your skill levels and whether you’re f2p or p2p.

You can fish and sell raw lobsters or sharks.
Cut Yews and sell.
Mine pure essence and sell.
Hunt polar kebbits and sell their fur.

There are many other ways as well. Just depends on which skills you enjoy. I don’t recommend leveling up a skill you hate just because someone told you it’s a good money maker. You’ll get burned out. You can use penguin points though from the Penguin Hide and Seek D&D for those skills you dislike.

Work on your combat level some as well. You’ll enjoy the game more once you can trample the bad guys in some of the higher level dungeons.

Helen asks…

How can i get fast money on runescape?

How can i get fast money on runescape?
Im like broke i need to buy cannonballs lol.

Xox- Chloe

Nagesh answers:

This is a very good question with many different answers. I will vaguely touch on some of the different money making methods for members. If you would like more details on any one please feel free to contact me either in game or via yahoo. I do NOT know f2p moneymaking as it is a quite different game.
…1)Non combat skills
~Fishing~ Sharks, and monk fish, Fishing trawler for Manta ray and sea turtle you can even “free load” although this is unpopular with other players.
~Hunting~ polar kebbits, carnivorous chinchompas (stackable)
~Farming~ Grow Marigolds, ranarr, snapdragon, spirit weed and toadflax.
~rune crafting~ is almost always profitable (You can kill Banshee’s for noted pure essence a lot faster than mining for it ) If your not high enough for laws or natures there are worlds where you can run these for others.
~Cooking~ Tuna Potatoes, curry stew, and pizza’s
~Thieving~ cave goblin wires from Dorgesh-kaan.
~construction~ Make Teletabs via Lectern in player owned house.
~Mining~ coal is slow but pays very well. If you are high enough Adamintite and Runite.
…2) Using Combat
~Dragons using Melee or Range.
Green dragons in the Wildy or in the chaos tunnels,
Blue dragons in Edgeville dungeon, in ogre enclave and there is one in legends guild.
Black dragons with 70+ ranged or Kill them with protect from Melee (this cuts into profit as your using prayer potions though this can be minimalized by using prayer saving armor)
~Chaos druids, Unicorns, Moss giants, Vampires, White wolves, Cockroaches, Jungle spiders, Iban Disciples and Avanasis are all good monsters to fight for profitable drops.
*If you’re not interested in the prayer experience you can always kill and sell the bones. Ourg, Daganoth. Raurg, Fayrg and Dragon, sell best but even regular bones sell well.
** A fast way to big money is PKing but this is a risky endeavor. You can loose just as well as win. Remember there is always someone bigger and meaner than you… So you are liable to loose more money than you win. The more you risk the better your pay off its all on how gutsy you are.
…3) Slayer~ In general Slayer monsters pay well. Consider the food you use an investment. Most assignments drops more than pay for the food needed to fight them. The possibility of receiving a rare drop makes them even more enticing.
…4) Merchanting…watch the prices on the exchange then buy popular items when low and sell when high… There are several items you can buy in shops all over Runescape then sell for profit at the exchange, but as most of these are not stackable this can take several runs. Pineapples, seaweed, vials, bolts of cloth, Sacks, baskets, dyes, tinderboxes and Battlestaves are all examples of items that can be bought in stores all over Runescape and sold on the exchange for more.
… 5) There are several quests and diary’s that are well worth the effort. After doing the Throne of Miscellania (and Royal trouble) quests,You can get your kingdom workers to gather resources that can be sold.
…6) You can collect Snape grass, Mort myre fungus, Planks, White berries, Potato cacti, Flax,Red spider eggs, Blue dragon scales, and Swamp tar. All these sell well.
…7)Clue scrolls are a roll of the dice but they have the possibility of large large payoffs!
… 8) You can hang out at the Falador drop room… I find wearing a ring of wealth helps (this is controversial)… It’s just up to luck what you can get and how fast you can get it.
…9) Diversions and distractions… Penguin hunting can make as much as 104k a week and Shooting stars and the evil tree can give you over 100k a day in coins and items.
…10) Try not to return to a bank with empty inventory and always pick up stack able items. Even if an items not worth much its worth more than an empty space in your pack. You can always drop an item if something worth more is available.
……The thing is the game is designed to take time (which is why my answer is so long).. Your suppose to have to work for it. Jagex does a good job of making sure there are no quick ways to fast cash! I answer this same question for a lot of people, often they want to know which one is the best method. There is no best method. They are all good solid ways to try out and figure which one YOU like the best (my personal favorite is chaos druids and slayer)… Remember the point of the game is to have fun. So find the one you like, sit back relax and enjoy!

Your Questions About Fast Money Making Stocks

Ruth asks…

What company is doing really good in the Stock Market?

I’m in a contest for school to see what team has the most money left at the end of the year( we are given $100,000 worth of fake money). I need really good Companies! Thnx for da answers! = )
Thank you!
Thank You So Much Mincie Birder! That realy helped!

Nagesh answers:

I love the way you put the question “have the most money left at the end of the year” Well put.

Unfortunately, many doing really well are in my opintion over priced. But what do I know?

Here are a list of the pest performing stocks:

POT this stock is going great guns. Up 200% in one year. UP 6 points today. Makes fertilizer.

FAST is doing very well also. Up 25% ytd. Not too shabby. It is a little better value than POT. But still kind of expensive.

PNRA is doing well also. Up 25% ytd. This one had a tough 2006 and 2007. It looks like maybe it is beginning a recovery.

TSL is speculative but a decent speculation. Their earnings should explode this year.

Is that enough for your contribution?

Chris asks…

What are some good ways to invest my money other than in a brokerage account or in real estate?

How else can I invest my money other than buying mutual funds, stocks, bonds, options, and real estate?

Nagesh answers:

Hi,

If I were young, I would be investing in small cap growth mutual funds or stocks. Go here for excellent low cost advice (http://www.aaii.com/aaiiportfolios/commentaries/stockportfolio/200701comment.cfm).

Don’t be alarmed at the low cost – it has some of the best financial advice on the Web.

You have lots of time before retirement which means the magic of compound interest will just keep building and building. It really works and if you keep investing every year, in 10 or 15 years you will be surprised at how it mounts up. In 30 years you could be a millionaire which probably won’t amount to much in 30 year owing the the ravages of inflation.

And that’s the primary reason to keep investing in small cap growth stocks – they will flog inflation to death.

When investing in mutual funds, select the no-load funds only. Do not invest in mutual funds with a “load”, an up front commission that you have to pay before when they sell you the mutual fund. Some charge as much as 10% which is a rrip-off. Many studies have shown that the no-load funds do as well as the load funds and sometimes a lot better.

Look at the AAI Shadow Stock Portfolio. I would try and emulate that portfolio if you want to invest in stocks. It was up 25% as of November 2006. The Vanguard Index fund is only up 14%.

AAII has some of the best financial advisers and the cost is very low. They have excellent guides and advice.

You may need a broker so go to e-Trade or Scottsdale who have low commission rates.

Do your own due diligence. Your own ideas are the best. Do not depend on someone else to select investments for you. Learn about investing so you don’t have to ask what stocks to invest in.

Be self reliant.

Remember what Emerson said: A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do.

Find stocks that have steadily rising net profits (earnings), low debt, and good P/Es, lots of cash, companies buying back their stock..

What interests you? Find stocks that pique your interest and passion.

You need fast growing good stocks with good earnings and in good sectors. You need to learn more about the stock market before you even think about investing in it.

The stocks world is divided into 12 sectors such as energy which chevron belongs to. It is next to last in the sectors list today.

Technology is numero uno, but things can change in a new york minute, but within the sector, the fastest growing are computer services, not Microsoft. Then, Electronic Instruments and controls. Next is computer storage devices.

The next hot sector is Healthcare, but heed the warning below. Go here for sectors: (http://clearstation.etrade.com/cgi-bin/Itechnicals?Event=srp&Section=redge&Refer=/redge.html)

The best software is Vector Vest if you can afford it. It has sector investing.

Here is a free Web site for charting stocks: (http://www.incrediblecharts.com/).

First of all, stay away from “professional brokers” and tips coming to you via e-mail or friends and acquaintances. And tips at Yahoo! Answers. And e-mail tips. Do your own due diligence – don’t rely on someone else. Read Emerson’s essay “Self Reliance.

Hey! They will say anything to get you to buy their junk. If it’s too good to be true, it is.

Remember this, they are just sales people trying to sell you what their firm is pushing. They are not security analysts or financial planners, not even financial advisers. Trust me, I know from experience that they cannot be trusted especially with a million dollars. You risk losing it all. A million dollar account is known as a “whale” and they would love to get their greedy little paws on it and suck it dry. They just want to make commissions on what they buy and sell for the suckers, err…clients..

Risk avoidance is the name of the game.

Remember, the harder I work, the luckier I get.

Penny stocks are highly speculative. I would avoid the ones under a dollar a share. For example, Best Buy started at less than $5. So there are some good companies, but it takes a lot of digging to find the good ones. You are looking for companies with good earnings, little debt, low capitalization, and good P/Es. For stocks under $5, very few will meet these requirements.

Stay away from the pharms unless they have patented drugs – do not invest in generic pharms, no growth there.

Check out which business sectors are the most popular and invest in the companies in those sectors. The number one, two and three are: technology, health care, and cyclicals (retail). These change periodically so keep current.

There are these lists all over the Web – you pays your money and takes your chances.

Most mutual funds do not even keep up the the return on the S&P. That’s like 99% of them.

Vanguard Index funds are a no brainer.

A CD is better than a savings account. They range from six months to several years. You cannot touch your money tho until the time limit is up.

Check out this Web site on Direct Investment Plans where you can buy shares directly from companies: (http://www.fool.com/School/DRIPs.htm). Usually no fees and you can buy one share at a time.

Bonds are probably the safest. But they are not for the young. You might try a bond fund. They might return 5 or 6 percent. At 5% a million would return $50,000 a year – not a bad income. Remember, you have to pay taxes on the $50,000.

There are also municipal bonds and the income from them is taxfree especially if you buy them in a state that offers them, but they only pay about 3%, but it’s mostly taxfree.

Look into Fidelity sector funds. Buy the top three, then in six months look how they are doing and if not so hot, select the next three that are best. Do this for a few years and you will make lots of money.

P.S. This is a life-long learning process. Reading these books and applying the rules to analyzing stocks that may be good It takes time. Be patient and keep reading and listening. Don’t be a sucker and follow someone elses advice. Be your own man or woman. Depend on no one except yourself. You can only get smarter and stronger that way.

P.P.S. Internet has lots of good stuff, for example (http://stockcharts.com/school/doku.php?id=chart_school:technical_indicators:moving_average_conve
Stockcharts.com is very good and their discussion of MACD is one of the best, barring its originator, Gerald Apple, but now we are getting into Technical Analysis and that is not for beginners. But it is an important factor in finding good stocks that are going up and growing. Remember, tiny acorns grow into mighty oaks.

George asks…

What is the fastest possible way to high returns on stocks as fast as possible?

What type of stocks will lead me in the right direction ? Please.

Nagesh answers:

Unfortunately for you, stocks are not a good place to make money quickly. They are a great way to make money over decades, but if you try to make money quickly, you are more likely to lose money.

Lisa asks…

How do Dividends and Dividend Reinvestment Plans work with stocks?

Say I buy a stock. Do I select whether I want dividends to be reinvested or not, or how does it work? If I select not to reinvest, then how do I get the dividends paid (check, show up as cash in my account?)? If I select to reinvest, are new shares bought on a market order immediately when I receive the dividend, or how does that go? Thanks for your help!

Nagesh answers:

First, not all companies pay dividends. Some retain their earnings and reinvest in their business. Of the companies that pay dividends, most pay the dividend quarterly. Many of these companies have dividend reinvestment plans and to sign up for them you should talk to the company’s investor relations department or their stock transfer agent. The stock transfer agents run most of these programs.
The way in which your investment in a company is recorded, determines how you receive your dividend. In the old days, you bought a stock through a stock broker and several weeks later, the company mailed a stock certificate to you. You became the “registered owner” and dividend checks were mailed directly to you. There are some people who still hold their stock certificates in “physical” form. However, in an effort to reduce paperwork and make the settlement of trades more efficient and less costly, the stock brokerage firms formed the Depository Trust Corporation or DTC. DTC has become the record holder for a majority of the shares traded today. When you buy a share of stock through a broker, the broker will no longer arrange to have a paper stock certificate sent to you and instead your shares will be reflected electronically in the records of the brokerage firm and on your account statement. All of the brokerage firm’s account holders will be aggregated together on the books of DTC. In this way, we shares are traded between stock brokerage customers, DTC simply makes a bookkeeping entry on their system, showing the shares being traded from one stock brokerage firm to the other. The individual brokerage firms then make the notation on your account statement.
When dividends are paid by a corporation, the corporation usually sends the payment in two separate wire transfers. One is sent to the corporation’s stock transfer agent who then sends paper checks to those owners who hold physical shares. The other wire transfer sent electronically by the corporation to ito the holder of record of the shares held in “street name” (who is DTC) and DTC deposits the money in each of the brokerage firms’ accounts at DTC. The broker then allocates that portion of the dividend to your individual account. This happens almost immediately on the dividend payment date. This eliminates the need for paper checks and results in the faster receipt of dividend payments. Once the money hits your account, you can access it.
For dividend reinvestment plans, the stock transfer agent receives that portion of the dividend payment for those who elect to reinvest it. Depending on the program, the stock transfer agent can then either enter the market on a specified day and purchase shares in the market (usually at the close of trading or before the open, so that normal trading isn’t affected), or it can use the average trading price of the company’s stock over some period, like 10 days, and purchase the shares directly from the corporation (sometimes at a slight discount to the average trading price). In this case, the corporation would be issuing new shares. Sometimes investors can sell their shares held in the dividend reinvestment plan through the stock transfer agent, and the agent will purchase those shares for those who are reinvesting their dividends.
For investors who own their shares in a brokerage account in street name, you have to sign up through your brokerage firm. Sometimes there are fees to participate in these plans.

Thomas asks…

How much money would you need to invest to make a profit in stocks?

I have no knowledge whatsoever in stocks, so sorry if my question is silly or doesn’t make sense ^^

Basically, how much money would you need to invest to actually turn a profit?

Nagesh answers:

With stocks, it isn’t money, it’s diversity and time. If you’re looking to turn a profit, first, do yourself a favour and pay off any existing debt that you have, because that’s compounding faster in most cases than your compound interest will be, so you’ll have more money in the end by doing that first.

Then, you need to know that you can expect lots of losses, but the point is that by leaving your money in a long time, you end up with a lot of it. Compound interest means that by not withdrawing your money from investing, and scraping to add more, you end up with lots more profit.

If you invest over a long time, an economy that grows will increase more than the losses, if you’re sufficiently diversified. If it tanks, you’ll want to have invested some of your money in low-risk things that aren’t so volatile. So think about how long you plan to be working on this, and read some more below on what vehicles are out there to invest your money.

The stock market won’t make most people rich quickly. So let’s look at some basics about what you want, how much time you have, and how much risk you tolerate.

*I am NOT a certified investment advisor, and will instead be pointing you to other people’s information. This is provided solely for general informational purposes. You would be very well advised to visit a financial planning manager at your bank, because there are a LOT of other options out there for investment, some with much lower risk.

This is a very basic overview. There are different types of stocks out there. It’s a long lesson but very clear and worth reading all the pages.

The motley fool is a great place to look for basic advice on what to do with your money; they aim to be accessible to regular people, not just businesspeople who invest for a living.

*note: When they say “foolishly” they mean “according to the motley fool’s advice” not stupidly. It’s their tagline and brand ID.

You can start with very little. Here’s a guide to start with just $100:
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/StartInvesting/StartInvestingWithJust100.aspx
and another beginner’s guide:

http://education.wallstreetsurvivor.com/GettingStartedInvesting

As you can see, lots of people are talking about how to do this. BUt talk to your bank, because you will also have to deal with things like taxes, and it’s always good to have someone on your side whom you can turn to for advice, and many banks offer free financial planning services. You don’t have to do what they tell you, but they can make you aware of a lot of other opportunities and ways to increase your wealth- even starting very, very small. Compound interest makes fortunes, it just takes time.

Good luck, and remember that it’s not about how much you start with.

Your Questions About Quick Ways To Make Money In College

Steven asks…

whats a quick way to get money for a young teen?

i babysit but i would like cute creative ways to advertise it. plz no fake bs answers. ty =]

Nagesh answers:

Parents don’t want “cute” when it comes to child care, they want mature and responsible.

Instead of trying to find a “cute” way to advertise be business minded and get together a portfolio of refrences and try posting flyers in places like libraries, college campuses, and grociery stores to make people aware of your services.

Lizzie asks…

I am now short of money for college and this will be my first year. what is the quickest way to get money?

I already have 2750 from loans and 2250 from the challenge. im short 1900 plus books. I dont think i can take out any loans cause i dont have any credit built up. I just need so serious help or advice. I dont want to go to a community college..

Nagesh answers:

Try to get a job as a waitress. It’s a good first job and you can make some nice tips to help pay for loans, tuition, etc.

Donna asks…

What is a quick, legal way to earn some money?

My college roommate and I are desperate to get our hands on an xbox 360 (hehe), though, being college students, we have no money🙁 We are jobless, and too busy to get one, though we do have a few afternoons that we can spare for the sake of getting some money. My roommate thought about scanning craigslist from things people are giving away, renting a u-haul, and selling everything on campus (or somewhere else). Can anyone think of any other ways to earn some money (legal, obviously:))? We have a car, internet connection, and a weekend (plus afterschool time) to accomplish this goal. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Ok, perhaps the context of why we need the money detracts from the dignity of the question, but can people just give their ideas about quick(ish), legal ways to earn money? Think of it as a creative way to spend an afternoon as under-grad entrepreneurs. However you view it, sarcastic comments (however true) are not what I was looking for.

Nagesh answers:

Ok, I don’t know just how legal/illegal this is, but you shouldn’t get into any serious trouble…

Dumpster Diving. Not at residences, but at businesses. A friend of mine just went dumpster diving at a Home Depot. He and a friend filled up two vehicles with a bunch of gazebos and tiki bars that they had thrown away. They sold them on craigslist for about $200 each. A lot of companies just throw away old merchandise like this when they get new product in.

On campus you can also tutor others in certain subjects for some bucks. If you have some money you can buy and sell on e-bay. If you think your good salesmen there are all kinds of good sales jobs you can do on a part-time basis, where you set your own hours and get paid commission.

Maria asks…

Quick ways to earn money?

I’m going on a ton of trips this summer including a shopping trip with my my friend…but I don’t have much to spend. My parents put like all my allowance in my college saving banking account which I know is all good but I want some to spend too! I get like 20$ every month for doing chores and stuff… I babysit a little but not much.

I need some things I can do as quick ways to earn money. I’m in 8th grade. Maybe a garage sale?? I dont know!! haha… Please don’t suggest that because I already do that.. and I don’t even have many people to babysit… please suggest any quick way (within 2 weeks) I can earn a pretty good amount of money!

Also, are there any ways I can convince my parents to possibly raise my allowance, and do you think I even should ask them to raise my allowance.. or is that just impolite and rude??

Thank you guys soo much! And no answer is weird… i love ’em all!!!:D

Nagesh answers:

Dog walking and car washing.

Sandy asks…

What are some ways that you could make quick and easy money in college?

I attend a college 6 hrs away from my home. I quit my job when i started going to school because I do not have a car and there was no way that I could make it to and from work. There are no surrounding places that I could work at. I’m broke. With all of my grants and loans my tuition is still coming up short as something I just cant afford! I cry everyday and every night because I do not know how I am going to make it! Can someone please help me..how can I make quick easy money so that I can get through this?

Nagesh answers:

Apply for a regular job that you have the skills for, but when you send your cover letter for your resume let them know you are interested in working from your home office.

Your Questions About Make Money Quickly Uk

Lisa asks…

What is the best incubator to get that is under £100?

Me and my brother are saving up enough money to raise and hatch our own chicks from incubator to laying. We don’t have much money so we need to know what is the best incubator for the least money? We are beginners and we don’t want the troubles of having to turn the eggs every couple of hours as we are at school for 6 hours of the day usually, so we would prefer an automatic. Thanks for your help

Nagesh answers:

Ebay or Amazon would be your best option I found this on Ebay just now http://www.ebay.ie/itm/New-48-Eggs-Fully-Automatic-Chicken-Egg-Incubator-/160999617833?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Poultry&hash=item257c533529

I have an Rcom Suro 20 which is also a good incubator. Brinsea would be another good make. You do realise running the brooder with the red heat lamp is quite heavy on electric? Chicks need heat for 3-4 weeks depending on the outside temperature & how soon you can get them in an outside coop.

What will you do with the cockerels you will hatch have you thought of that? Out of 20 eggs you might set in the incubator you will possible get 14 hatch, of these you might get 4 pullets & 10 cockerels. It happens believe you me. Cockerels can crow from 10 weeks of age so to avoid noise nuisance you need an outlet to sell them or fatten them up quickly for the table.

Daniel asks…

How do those website get so much traffic so quickly?

Sometimes when I read about new websites and I check their traffic rankin on alexa, it looks like they had a HUGE surge in traffic only after 1 month. How do these websites do that? Do they just throw a ton of money at search engines?

Nagesh answers:

Some do it via heavy ad spending on pay per click; others do it by tapping viral marketing, while others tap the media and get great coverage.

Getting traffic is a combination of a lot of things. The key to success is to create great content that visitors want to use, search engines will love and other websites will naturally link to. Of course, it’s easier said than done.

You can use pay per click advertising in the search engines to reach audiences looking for your products. You can use Google Adwords http://www.google.com/adwords or Yahoo http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com

Here are some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:

1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement – if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.

2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important — and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more – that’s additional traffic that you get for FREE!

Recommend Site Scripts (various) http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Big Nose Bird Recommend this Site http://bignosebird.com/carchive/birdcast.shtml
CGI Resource Index http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Hostscripts http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Site_Recommendation/index.html

3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

If you are going to read only one piece on search engine optimization, I suggest you read Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld.com’s “Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone: 26 steps to 15k a day.” http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htm

4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News.

5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.

Here is a comprehensive list of where to submit your articles http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=AhzreGmnCUicOoyedqypscUjzKIX?qid=1006022407481

David asks…

What do you guys know about Polish Immigration and Polish People in general?

Hey guys, just needed a little info 4 a drama project on immigration. I kinda need 2 kno when the polish started coming over, what the benefits are for them and us in the uk, what the disadvantages for them and us having them here. Also do they learn english in Poland? Thanks guys if u hav any answers that would really help : ) xx

Nagesh answers:

Im not in the UK, I’m in the US, but the majority of the Polish people immigrated into the UK and the US right around World War 2. Some came to both countries with just the shirts on their backs as they were forced to leave their homes quickly… They came to both countries and learned the language as quickly as they could and became productive citizens of both the UK and the US…. Most Polish people worked very hard and contributed greatly to the economy of both the US and the UK….they were proud to become citizens of our free world countries… There really was no disadvantages for us or the UK welcoming Polish people into their respective countries, however, think how difficult it would be for you to leave your home and family behind and sleep in a crowded boat or walk hundreds of miles in search of freedom and end up in a place where no one speaks your language, the money system is different, their families are all hundreds of miles away or spread across the Atlantic or all through free Europe and that you never would see your family members again… You would feel lost as I suspect most Polish people felt when they came to the US and UK….they were poor and had to work hard and long not only to learn how to speak English, but to catch up in school and learn trades or have careers …. English is taught in Poland today as it has been for years……

Betty asks…

How did usa become the biggest power after ww2?

I mean what happened to uk?during world war 2 who was the better and powerful country USA or England?when did usa become the powerful world leader and when did it end for England?

Nagesh answers:

Several factors came together all at once to lead to that shift.

1. The British Empire was in the process of breaking up. Various portions of it shortly thereafter broke off or just became under nominal control in the Commonwealth. Look at Australia, India, New Zealand, and many other colonies getting their own self-rule and becoming separate nations.
2. With the devastation to Europe having to be rebuilt, there was damage in Britain that had to be repaired, and that took time and money. America didn’t have damage to repair like that.
3. The British had fought the war longer and had lost a larger section of their population to the war.
4. The Americans had invented several powerful new devices and ideas during the war that quickly became very important. The US being the first nuclear power alone made them greater.

Sharon asks…

Is bad performance at university a reason to commit suicide?

Might not seem important to you but when you’ve got nothing else left, it’s the only that matters. And when your parents prefer your elder brother and see you only as machine to make money, nothing is worth staying alive.

I already have the gas tank and the bag. It will be a very peaceful death, don’t worry. And then it’s darkness and all the worms eating up my body.

Nagesh answers:

Jason, this is not funny, and not a good idea. Why? Because most people have problems with ‘family’ and some families are mean enough to openly prefer one child over another.
That you have the gas tank and bag, doesn’t mean that will be a peacful death, in fact many people when unconscious , push the bag off their heads or otherwise try to save themselves. Like you could be doing.
There are some great people in your country that can help you heal your pain quickly and move on with your life, and make some new friends. Please realize this method is newer and it is the best method to remove, resolve pain . Your Questions About Fast Money Online Paypal

William asks…

How does the money get to your account when you use paypal?

If you use a credit card and paypal, how do you get the money? Does it get sent in a check? Or does it get deducted from your expenses or how does it work?
Then what? How do I get the money in my hand??

Nagesh answers:

Money received to your PayPal account sits there online until you spend it or ask for it. Which can mean a mailed check (for a small fee), deposited into your regular bank account (free but you have to wait a few days), or put on certain Visa cards (fast but for a fee). Once you have the check in your hand or the money in your account, how you turn it into cash is up to you.

Paul asks…

Can you use Visa Electron with a PayPal account?

I have a normal bank account with Visa Electron, can I use it? I don’t know if it is the same in all countries, but if it will help I live in Slovakia. Please I need to make some money by selling. Slovakia is the worst country to live in. I have a wage of 700€ and the rent is 500€. With less than 200€ a month I can’t live and feed two children. If you have any tips for selling please tell me! Thank you very much for answering!

Nagesh answers:

Hello,

Yes you can use Electron Visa cards with a Paypal account to sell, buy and basically doing anything with it just like everywhere else. Make sure your account has activated internet banking and web/phone payments.

Tip: don’t rent property in SK you will go bankrupt before you notice it
and I’m not sure what you want to sell online but if you think of making fast money by drop-shipping or re-selling various cheap stuff from china on ebay and so on, don’t do it, ebay fees and pay pal fees will likely consume everything you earn.

Donna asks…

What’s the best way to send money from the UK to the USA?

The recipient doesn’t have a Paypal account and I’m loathed to give any account details of mine away online. I’m therefore wondering how to go about sending the payment via post. Any help would be very welcome.

Nagesh answers:

If you’re going to mail it, I would send an international money order in US Dollars.

If you want it there faster, try something like Western Union – they do instant money transfers, like Paypal – you can either go to a place who has Western Union or I think you can do it online now, but the person goes to pick up the money.

Linda asks…

I am interested in participating in a gifting program online, but there are so many. Have any ideas?

Many of them require you to send at least $500. There is one that I found that states that you send at least $100, but there is a $16 a month fee. I want to participate in one that has a very quick turn around – that sends the money to you as soon as possible.

Nagesh answers:

I just signed up at RevolutionMoneyExchange and received a free $25 dollar bonus. Please google it. They are totally legit and all you have to do is fill out a form that takes 2 minutes. The site is free to use. This is a company founded by AOL chairman Steve Case. They are trying to be the next PayPal. The Revolution credit card also has an offer that you can see here at buy.com:

Your Questions About Earn Money Quick And Easy

Susan asks…

How can i make easy money , quick?

Im only 15 nd

Nagesh answers:

I’ll answer the question.

Deal drugs or any other illegal activity that earns a lot of revenue.

Thats how to make fast money but i’m not saying do it..

If there was a legal way then wouldn’t everyone be doing it?

Daniel asks…

what can a 12 year old boy to earn money in queen creek az? (rural, but developing quickly)?

what can i do to earn money in the summer her in the QC in the summer?

Nagesh answers:

Mowing lawns is a quick easy (and legal) way to earn cash. Even find odd end jobs to do for money like cleaning windows, or even babysitting.

Since you are 12 you are limited to the things you are allowed to do since you can’t legally earn money yet. But there should be people in your neighborhood who wouldn’t mind employing someone your age to do some errands.

Joseph asks…

money……?

what is the quickest easiest way to EARN money…. i dont want to steal it ofcourse…. but im planing on buying 2 things…. that are…. accouple of hundred dollars…… les paul guitar and Xbox 360 to be exact….. so whats the easies way to earn money…..?

Nagesh answers:

You won’t like the answer, but the quickest way is to do errands for someone else, maybe a neighbour. Pet-sit, pet-walk, baby-sit, clean up garbage, etc. They’ll pay you cash and you won’t have to wait three weeks to get a direct-deposit paycheque, etc.

Although…hmm…not sure how old you are, but I’d think about maybe investing that xbox money instead of buying the xbox….. Start learning about stocks now.

Betty asks…

I need some easy ways that i could earn some money.?

Nagesh answers:

I don’t mean to simply contravene, but what’s truly time-proven is that working for your money will limit your money-making potential greatly. If you’re looking for a quick buck, a part-time job may be what you need. I’d like you to know about more rewarding options, though.

Rather than working for your money, you can try to create something that will work for YOU and bring in money. I’m not sure what you mean by “easy ways” exactly, but I do know that having to continually work to get any money is not particularly easy. There’s some work that you do continually for which you get paid once. There’s other work you do once for which you continually get paid.

Blogging is an example of something that pays you continually. You write an article once, and from that point on people can come look at it. Pair that with ad revenue (Google AdSense for example) and you get a tiny bit of money for it. It’s a slow start, but it builds upon itself. Want a “raise?” Write more blogs to bring in more people and bring people back for more ad revenue.

There are many opportunities like that, many more than before thanks to the Internet. Be creative in looking for ways to provide value to other people. If you can give other people something they want, you can find a way to extract value from it yourself. This is true business: everybody wins.

On the other hand, if you don’t get a good answer here, consider asking another question with more information about your situation or consider giving additional details.

Jenny asks…

fable 2 quick and easy money?

is there a fast way to get money in fable 2 I need to buy castle fairfax and brightwood tower.

Nagesh answers:

The best way is to put the money you earn by working into real estate and rent out the properties. Businesses return better incomes and soon you will be rich enough to buy Brightwood Tower and later the Castle.

Your Questions About Ideas To Make Money On Ebay

Sandy asks…

Any idea’s on making money on ebay?

I have been selling clothes and small things from around the house but would love to get something going that generates a little more cash flow. Not talking LOTS of money. Just a little extra every month would be nice. Willing to invest a little money but no idea’s on what would be a “great seller”. Any help would be appreciated. Also, where does everyone get all the “closeouts” and “liquidations”? Connections maybe?

Nagesh answers:

I am an exporter/importer liquidator, and I sell liquidation lots to many eBay sellers. If you’d like to know more, contact me and I’d be happy to discuss possibilities.

Laura asks…

ebay ideas?

I recently recived five thousand dallors for college from a rich uncle and I dont really want to let it sit. I go to a university and have plenty of time on my hands. I want to start doin the whole ebay thing because i think i have enough capital to start. I was wondering if anyone had any good ebay ideas, what are good products and busniess ideas that tend to sell well.

Nagesh answers:

Invest your money in stocks! Don’t waste it on Ebay!

Carol asks…

eBay money making ideas??

So I’ve been wanting to try to get into homemade custom projects that could maybe sell on eBay. My first idea was to make custom dog tags because if you get a good price on the materials, they are super easy to make those and custom ones sell for a decent price I’ve seen. The only problem with that is that I would need a machine called an addressograph to make them and there is no local place I know of to buy one, and the cheapest ones online sell for $800…it would take 3-6 months and a lot of time and supplies just to break even….and I don’t have that much money to invest. So my next thought was makibg custom guitar picks. You can obtain cheap black picks in bulk no problem but the only problem is I have no idea how to put custom graphics that won’t wear off and no clue what equipment can do that cost effectively…what I was thinking now is custom graphic stencils on certain items. I’ve seen things like cheap $4 flasks that are custom painted using stencils with different images or designs that would take about half an hour each to make and sell for $18-$20 plus hopping costs! My wife manages a ink refill shop and she knows everything about printing and can make stencils and I know a supplier that sells different types of spray materials like krylon that go on different types of materials flawlessly like metal, plastic, gel, etc…so would this be a good idea? I so what materials or everyday things could I transform into collectables that are sold locally and in bulk I can customize to sell? Thanks.

Nagesh answers:

Sell locally on craigslist

Ruth asks…

im trying to earn money. do you think selling stuff on ebay is a good idea?

i want to try to earn money. is selling stuff on ebay a good idea? if so what should i sell?

Nagesh answers:

Yes selling stuff on eBay is a great idea. I wanted to get new clothes so, I sold my old ones. I made probably almost $200 just on selling lots of name brand clothing. It is easy and you can set up a pay pal account for free and the money goes right into your account. You have to make sure that you specify specifics for example, need to pay within three days of sale ending and so forth because some people can take advantage, but it is great!

Donald asks…

EBAY NICHE? Any Ideas?

Im thinking about earning a bit of money from Ebay and i was wondering what good niches there are ATM. I dont want to risk buying a niche guide and would appreciate it if anyone could give some good advice.

Nagesh answers:

Harry, its not world of warcraft lol, you cant just jog along to the AH and sell stuff… Plus ur too young to use Ebay or Paypal (no one buys without pay pal these days) so it doesn’t matter 😀 eheh

Your Questions About Ways To Make Money Fast For College Students

Nancy asks…

What kind of diet works well with a busy schedule and little money?

I am a college student and I am on campus most of the time. What kind of diet would work well with eathing from candy machines and fast food places. By the way I am payign for my own school so i have little money.

Nagesh answers:

My psychology teacher once said to eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full. Best advice I ever got.

Joseph asks…

How do we handle our college freshman daughter who was caught drinking?

Our daughter is a Freshman in college and she has just been caught drinking. She was caught by the RA who wrote her up. We were then contacted by someone higher up in the campus housing department. We were told that she was intoxicated to the point of vomiting. And this was on a Wednesday night. There will be no legal ramifications, but if she is caught again (in the dorms), she will not be allowed to live on campus next year.

Our family is a no-alcohol family. Neither myself nor my wife drink. We expect the same out of our children. Yes, I am aware that social life in college is often centered around alcohol, but these days, colleges offer sober ways of having fun too. Bottom line: Alcohol is NOT needed in order for one to have a good time. There are MANY other, healthier, safer, and cheaper ways to have fun.

Our daughter depends on us financially. We did not want her starting her life off in debt, so we are paying for college. She does not have a job, and we pay all her expenses. But in return, we expected her to uphold our family values. Yes, she is an adult and must make her own decisions, but if she is adult enough to make such decisions, then she should be adult enough to pay her own way.

So here’s what we are going to do:

1) Starting in summer when she comes home, she will find a job or full time internship. She will also take a part time job in her Sophomore year to pay her social expenses. We will not question what this money is spent on. Most college students have to do this even when they haven’t broken a rule…

2) When she gets home she will have a physical exam with blood work to make sure that her drinking is not harming her liver (yes, weekend binging can harm your liver, even in the short term). She was going to have a physical exam anyway, so this condition isn’t anything additional.

3) We will continue to give her money for essentials, but we will ask her to send us the receipts, which we will check against bank statements that we receive.

4) She will not have a car on campus next year, like originally planned.

She has agreed to all of these.

Are we doing the right thing here?
Alison, let me remind you that the drinking age is 21 years in this country. She is only 19. So no, it is not ok for her to drink alcohol. And if she is old enough to make her own decisions, then she should be old enough to make her own money or pay her own way. I already explained this.

And to the person who told me I have issues. No, I really don’t. We DID teach her the right values earlier on….that’s why we’re disappointed.
Some of you have clearly failed to understand what I am trying to say, despite how simple I made it. I am NOT forcing her into ANYTHING. A physical exam with blood work is NOT a punishment. It is something we all have to do, and it is NOT a big deal. And I did not force her into it, so you’d better stop saying that I did. And your highness, clearly I AM doing what your dad did not do, which is meet in the middle. I AM making her get a part time job. After she turns 21, she can drink if she wants, but right now she is most emphatically NOT 21.

Nagesh answers:

You actually have some of the best parenting skills I have ever seen when it comes to parenting. How much better off would this world be if everyone had parents like you. I cannot imagine. You actually have a lot of common sense and set down with your child and kind of made out a contract of sorts. You certainly are very supportive of her going to school, but let her know you expect her to follow the rules as long as you are paying the bill. You even say that the money she earns can be spent on whatever she wants, but the money you give has to be accounted for. You actually stood your ground and expects your child to do the right thing and let’s her know it and put into a plan a way to accomplish that. Brilliant! You aren’t too strict. That’s the problem with a lot of parents. A friend of ours had a son in college for 2 years now and ignored his drinking off and on at college and getting into trouble about it from time to time. The parents had the mentality of “They are just college kids letting off steam. No big deal, ” or “Better be careful son and watch it.” The parents did nothing else to stop the behavior. Now their kid has failed and was tossed out and now he is back at home living with mom and dad with a job at a fast food restaurant. How different it could have turned out if he had parents like you.

The physical exam is nothing. She should have one anyway. Everyone should. I’m sure you have brought her up with the same common sense you are using now that she is older. I have a feeling it is going to pay off. Lack of disipline and not taking responsibility for bad behavior is one of the biggest problems in too many homes and the parents do nothing about it. That’s the problem. I think it’s great that you are paying for her college since so many kids end up with huge loans to pay back. You are being very generous with her and you have every right to expect her to not break the law and follow your rules while you are paying. Like you explained, if she wants to act up and break the rules, then she can pay her own way. It’s an easy choice to make and very simple to understand. I give you 5 stars on parenting and lots of people should follow your logic and parenting style and their kids would be a lot better off.

Steven asks…

What are inexpensive foods that are still good for you?

I’m not your average college student; I don’t drink, I don’t eat fast food, I don’t like partying. However, like most college students, I don’t have much money. I really love eating salads and fruits and good meats, but they are generally too expensive. Additionally, I’m not that great of a cook. Are there any specific products that I could buy that will be healthy for me but not break my budget?

Nagesh answers:

Beans are generally inexpensive and good for you. You can use them as a meat substitute or a side dish. Other things you can do is buy foods that you can use more than once, that brings the price down per meal. For example, on Sunday cook a turkey breast and the use it for the rest of the week in stir fry, sandwiches, etc. When you are down to the carcass, use it to make a soup stock. Soup is nutritious and cheap to make. Plus you can use what ever is on hand. In the winter when fruit is expensive, I buy the bags of frozen berries, etc. Same flavor in smoothies at a fraction of the price. You can also try to get a group of friends together and create pot luck suppers–it is another way to stretch a budget when everyone is responsible for only one dish. Hope this gives you some ideas!

Linda asks…

Are there any affordable ways to get to Japan to help with the crisis?

Hey everybody,

I am a college student with very little money, and I was wondering if I could, somehow, personally go to Japan and help out with the crisis without having to buy a plan ticket. Do these charity organizations offer free transportation to the areas of devastation? I have a feeling that’s a no, haha. Anyways, I would really like to help out. I know I could donate money, but that dosen’t really seem suffice; it almost feels impersonal.

Thanks a lot,

Pat

Nagesh answers:

No organization takes untrained, spontaneous volunteers for international relief.

As I am sure you are aware, relief organizations are funded by donors. Donors expect that their money will be spent wisely. That means that where possible, expenses not related directly to helping survivors, have to be kept to a minimum. Flying people thousands of miles and spending money on their airfare is not a good use of money, when there are many local volunteers available. (Not all of Japan suffered damage, and they have a large and functional national Red Cross themselves.) Providing shelter and food to these people costs money, and strips scarce resources from the disaster survivors. Inexperienced volunteers are often shocked at the living conditions they have to deal with. Limited water, no electricity, shared open showers, and hot, crowded volunteer shelters are the norm. It’s one thing to say that you can deal with them while sitting at home, but a very different thing to endure them when working 12-16 hour days and sharing them with dozens of people you don’t know. Sending home a volunteer who’s had an emotional meltdown is just another unnecessary expense–and keeping them around is even worse.

Yes, many people have skills that may seem useful. However, disaster scenes are much more complicated than everyday life. Resources you take for granted (like electricity–see above) while doing your job are not present. In Japan, communication and cultural issues would be huge. The language is complex, it is not written in Western alphabets, and it is very difficult to learn. If a volunteer needs a translator, that ties up two people to do one job, and that is inefficient.

The Japanese put a very high value on etiquette, nuance, and protocol. Informal Americans–even ones who can manage some of the language–run a very high risk of insulting the people they want to help.

This is a common problem at disasters even in the U.S., with American volunteers not understanding the local culture. (For example, I have heard of one group of good-hearted people arriving with beef ribs to feed a Hindu community. They couldn’t eat the food due to their religious beliefs, and the volunteers were insulted at the refusal of their “gift.”)

Processing would-be volunteers is also a problem. Existing volunteers and staff have to take time away from planning and executing the response, in order to register, interview, and track prospective helpers. This takes time, and it doesn’t help when the prospective people get rude and yell at the existing workers for “taking too long.” By the way–being rude or exasperated is the fastest way to being rejected from a volunteer agency. If you behave like that in your home country, in your home language, in a comfortable setting, what kind of tantrum will you throw under real stress?

So, those are just a few of the many reasons spontaneous volunteers are not used.

If you can make the long-term commitment to training (1 or 2 nights a month and several weekend classes) and disaster response (1 week of on-call duty per month) with the Red Cross, you will gain experience in local and regional disasters. That will get you qualified for large responses over time.

Lizzie asks…

How much should I pay for a 30 ft mural done by non professional college student?

I would like a large (30 ft long and approximately 7 feet high) mural painted to decorate a new children’s party place that I’m opening. My decorating budget is mostly taped-out, so I suggest the job to someone I casual know. She is a college (not an art student, so she does not need this for a porfolio) student who is artistically talented but is not a professional. She paints but never done a mural before.
I did explained that I approached her because I can’t afford a professional, but she’s a college student who is not working so she can use the money. We haven’t discussed price yet because I’m not sure what to offer. What’s the (minimum) I can expect to pay?

PS. We’re in NJ which makes a difference since things are a bit more expensive here than other parts of the country

Nagesh answers:

Honestly thats a tough one, as everyone deserves to get paid for their talents….The way it should work is you tell her what you want done, and she gives YOU a price based on how long it will take her. She really needs to be the one to price herself according to her talents what she believes SHE is worth. Factoring in time, supplies, and experience. As a professional designer, painter, and artist, myself, I would probably charge about 2-3K for such a large mural….so if thats any indication, I wouldn’t offer any less than $500, which imo is still a bit low.

Just curious though: why didn’t you look for an art or painting student who really COULD use something like this in their portfolio, as well as the experience? They could probably do it faster than this other girl…and you can feel more confident in their abilities because you would be able to see their actual work….I’m not saying this other girl doesn’t have painting talents…just was curious as to why you didn’t give a painting student a chance first…. 🙂
